Father Michael

Throughout my life, the Lord has been faithful to me at every step in my path towards the priesthood.  My journey to ordination has been a long and interesting one.

I was born and raised in London where I attended Catholic schools before going to university to study history.

After this I went to Europe to train as a Catholic journalist for one year, having just finished working in the advertising department of a religious newspaper. This was the first of several positions I held in the varied career I enjoyed before my time at seminary. During this period I also became a member of the Antioch Community; an ecumenical Christian organization based in West London. This provided me a great deal of formation, friendship and fun. I also spent a few years on a 'mission team' working with other young people. All these experiences played an important part in my faith journey before I answered the call to the diocesan priesthood.

I look back and see how the Lord has placed just the right people in my path, to help me, encourage me, and correct me, on my journey towards priesthood. I can still remember my old parish priest telling the congregation over and over again that God chooses to speak to us often through the events in our lives. We have to listen and, in the words of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, 'give God permission to act.'

After studying in seminary for six years I was ordained priest and am presently ministering in a busy parish. I am learning every day about the riches, challenges and rewards of being a priest in today’s Church, relying on the strength and wisdom of the Holy Spirit and the support of my family and friends.
